Assessment of carwash wastewater reclamation potential based on household water treatment technologies

This paper assesses a bench-scale carwash wastewater treatment system's removal efficiency based on coagulation-flocculation and household-type activated carbon filter water ozonator. For the experiment, that went through an oil/water separator (OWS) from medium-sized facility located in dense commercial area Barranquilla, Colombia, was collected. The study evaluates following parameters: quality indicators recommended by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency literature related to reclamation. results are compared regional studies Latin America Colombian legislation force. Experimental evidence reclaimed water's characteristics similar those of groundwater source for most analyzed variables, system able reduce organic matter concentrations considerably. Regarding organoleptic characteristics, eliminated foaming generated transparent odorless product. coliform test showed has average total count around 5800 MPN/100 ml, which is above proposed health risk limit per international standards reuse; but as it complies with industrial non-food irrigation purposes additional disinfection depending reuse purpose. this research may assist future reclamation regulations Colombia American region.
